Masonic lodges existed in Iraq as early as 1917, when the first lodge beneath the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) was opened. Nine lodges under UGLE existed with the nineteen fifties, and also a Scottish lodge was formed in 1923. Having said that, the posture improved subsequent the revolution, and all lodges were being forced to shut in 1965.
